Karibuni! (Welcome!)

Hey everyone,

Welcome to my blog and and thanks for taking the time to check in on how things are going with my Peace Corps service. Over the next 27 months, I'll be updating this blog as often as I can with stories, pictures, random thoughts, and anything else I can think of to help share my experiences in Tanzania. I'll be serving as a secondary education math volunteer, though I won't find out exactly where I'll be in Tanzania until near the end of my training.

I leave on June 13th, 2011 for a brief training session in Philadelphia, and then head to Tanzania on the 15th. All volunteers have 9 or 10 weeks of in-country training when we arrive, during which we live with a host family and do all kinds of technical, cross-cultural, safety, and Swahili language training. After that, we get officially sworn in as Peace Corps Volunteers and leave for our assigned locations for the following 24 months.

I'm really excited and very grateful to have such an awesome experience ahead of me. It will be difficult to be away from friends and family for so long, so please comment or post on this blog whenever you get a chance. You can also keep in touch by email (I'm hoping to have at least somewhat regular access to electricity/internet) or if you're really patient, post mail. It may take several months to get a response, but I'll definitely get back to you when I can!

Thanks again for taking an interest in my safari (journey), and I hope you're able to gain something from my posts as well, and learn with me about life in Tanzania. Hakuna Matata.
